House Tour: Confession Wall

So... I have a little confession to make... hum... my parents are coming this week and so I need to "confess" before they get here and see in person my beautiful new wall.  Well, technically it is a few months old, but when I mentioned to my Dad that I was thinking about doing a chalkboard wall he told me it was the worst idea in the world... soooo I took his advice to heart and went with a white tongue and groove paneling, but when Micah and I started to hang up the paneling I said, "PLEASE, please, PLEASE could I do a chalkboard wall!  I think it would be perfect here!"  He said, "I really don't care... do what you like."  Isn't he wonderful?  We took back the paneling and for a fraction of the price I got paint for a magnetic/chalkboard wall!  Once again I forgot to take "before" pictures...
But you can kinda see the wall behind these incredibly cute kids,
this handsome boy,
And these adorable kiddos again!  I know it is hard to see the wall because their cuteness is distracting, but if you try you can see parts of the wall....
We bought a thin board, nailed it to the wall, and added trim.  I followed the directions and after a few days of painting and drying the beautiful magnetic chalkboard was finished!
I have no regrets (Don't worry, Dad, I have a fudge peace offering waiting for you!)!  I think it is marvelous.  Ethan and I use it to work on sounding out words (in fact I have some big magnetic letters in my Amazon cart online... hoping to order them for Christmas... better get on that!) ...
Eden uses it to do her thing,
...draw on walls...
she had that down pat before I got this wall up!
I absolutely love this wall... it makes me happy every single time I walk by it... I've always wanted to live in a fun artsy place... this makes it feel more like that!  Big kids are more attracted to this wall than my kiddos... what can I say?  I think it is a perfect fit in our home!

I love chalkboard walls.

How does it do with carpet? My vision was always with a sweepable floor,I can hear W telling me how impracticle it would be with carpet.

I don't notice the dust much... it vacuums up quite easily!

oh Christa! I LOVE it. Definitely would have benefited from having one of those in my house growing up as I was an expert at drawing on the walls and gluing my coloring pages on them too. Us artsy folks don't like to be fenced in ;)

We have something similar in Jovi's room that we put together last Christmas as her present, but we can't find chalk that works well! Most is too "hard" and scratchy.. We've tried the regular sized crayola chalk you get in the little boxes and also sidewalk chalk and we have the same issues with all of them. Consequently, the wall doesn't get much use. What kind of chalk to you use? Anything special?

We use the crayola sidewalk chalk... it works find find for what we do and I think it is softer than most of the chalks... plus the big size it good for learning to write!

That's just like our dry-erase board on our wall! It's great for hangman, tic-tac-toe, all sorts of things!! We gave it to the boys a few years ago as a Christmas present and they still love it! Granted, there are a few marker marks on the wall that won't come off....thank goodness we can just paint over it someday if need be!
Love the wall my friend--nice work! Have a great time with your parents too! So thankful they'll be there to help out a bit! :)
