We made salt dough ornaments last week. I used this recipe:
1 cup flour
1 cup salt
1 cup water (add slowly)
bake at 100 degrees for 3 hours or so.
It was a simple project and it went well.
So many of our project borderline on complete mayhem and chaos...
I have a love/hate relationship with doing craft projects with my kids.
THEY LOVE ACTIVITIES... and I have to remind myself that mess is okay. It usually cleans up. I chant to myself that this is GOOD and OKAY as dough is flying through the air, smashing into the carpet... and going into the littlest one's mouth. My patience level varies on the day and on the amount of sleep I had the night before! I think, "This hopefully won't destroy our house and it won't kill them!"
I was intrigued by how much Ethan is growing up. He worked so hard at this project and instead of smearing all the colors together like he normally does... he painted one color at a time and his ornaments looked great! I loved every one!
I love it when our projects keep them busy and focused.
There is less mayhem and chaos that way!
In all truth, the mess can be extremely cute!!!!
So here is my favorite ornament... painted by Ethan... I love covering my tree with these beauties... They are such special signs that Christmas is almost here!

I love this!!! I might have to add this to our long line of "Christmas projects"! They turned out spectacular...nice job Eden and Ethan! And I'm with ya on the mess--as we did all our cookies this past weekend, I kept telling myself that sprinkles on the floor (and everywhere else) is just part of the fun! Your tree looks great with those added ornaments--hugs to you my friend!
I have that same love - hate relationship with craft projects. We are going to decorate salt dough ornaments today with some of J's friends. I think we are going to use washable markers though.
Very nice!! We made salt dough handprint ornaments yesterday afternoon and I baked them for 6 hours (!!). Tonight we paint and glitter them up! Fun times :)
ooo! thanks for the recipe! I'll have to try it with kara. you're a good mama, taking the mess in stride. i have a hard time with that - i get so frustrated!
