Eden Eve... I need Advice!

Oh, Eden Eve! Eden continues to be pretty fussy and clingy most of the time (in her 5-6 hour wake period she probably cries about 4 hours of that... not straight, but on and off) and so I just need so advice.
Is this normal?
Ethan never whined, shrieked, cried, and was clingy like this... so I don't know if it is just Eden??? I have been researching about milk allergies to see if this might be the problem? I have tried altering/changing sleeping patterns and different nap times as well as earlier bed times. She cries out during the night many, many times... so I have wondered about her quality of sleep? But I feel like I might go crazy most days. I have to give her all my attention or have her hanging on my leg crying.... (she does enjoy many momma induced "quiet times" in her room all through out the morning... especially if I have to do something - anything). So my dear friends... that have girls or babies like this... is this normal? Any advice?

Your a Big Boy Now!

This week is sort of a "right of passage" week for Ethan. We are hyping up the days until his 3rd birthday.... explaining to him that he is now a "big boy." Big boys sleep in big boy beds.... so this morning we moved his crib upstairs to Eden's room... (so she can FINALLY move out of the pack and play). Big boys pee in the toilet... so we had big boy underwear and Cheerios in the toilet to aim at. Big boys have responsibility and big boys are expected to listen and obey. So it has been a busy day for this "big boy" and he did beautifully! I am so proud of him... we are tossing around the idea of putting him in preschool in Augusta this year (just so he can have some actual interaction with kids his own age...) and I get all choked up when I think about it... because to me he will always be my little boy...

Comic Relief

This past week has been a tad bit busy for us...
I know Ethan can tell when I need a good laugh... cuz he is always there to deliver.
How could I not laugh?
Doesn't everyone ride scooters in diapers and a cape?

River Otter (aka...Otter Pops)

We acquired a box of Otter Pops the other day and this morning Ethan and I put them in the freezer. I told him he could have one after lunch.... well - the Otter Pop (or as Ethan would say - the River Otter) was not frozen. I explained that he would have to wait until it froze to eat it and he was so upset! He wanted it NOW and there was nothing I could do to convince him... so I promised he could have one when he woke up from his nap. The first words he said when I came in his room to get him from his nap was "Can I have my River Otter now!?!"
Eden joined him and they both loved the "River Otters" and I loved seeing them marvel at the popsicles in a bag. I am glad we can have moments like this - we are intentionally trying to grab every last moment of summer as it is quickly becoming fall!

A New School Year... Starts Today!

Starting a new school year... should be like putting on an old hat... this is our 7th year. But since I have had kids the idea of a new beginning is quite overwhelming. My days are so full with my two little guys and every night I fall into bed happily exhausted (I LOVE BEING A MOMMA!)- but during the school year it is even more full and more exhausting and I find myself overwhelmed most days... I pray over and over - this is too much - this is too much - give me strength, give me wisdom, help me please. This year I have eight girls in my Bible study (that is a lot!) and all the rest of my responsibilities.
I want to be excited... I really do... I just feel overwhelmed!

Meeting the Brother

We got a call the other day.... there is a little boy in Africa - who is looking for a forever home. We said yes and now begin the paper trail to bring him home. His name is Deo, they think he is 18 months old, and he just started to walk. He is from a Catholic orphanage that receives a little bit more funding than most and so it sounds like he has been getting food (that is ALL we know). There is a lot of unknowns at this time... the orphanage where he is from has never done adoptions before so it will be an experiment. We pray that the paper trail won't be as long as we imagine and soon we can be loving on this little guy!

Family Reunion

32 hours in the car + 6 nights + 4 different homes + mixed up nap times + a little "flu" bug = vacation? No, it equaled a fabulous family reunion! We just got back from spending time with Micah's family and it was refreshing and fun... And even though we came home totally and completely exhausted, we also came home feeling loved, appreciated, and special... and that was totally worth the trip. Now onto a new school year!

The Heavens Declare....

Psalm 19

For the director of music. A psalm of David.
The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of His hands.

Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they display knowledge.

There is no speech or language
where their voice is not heard.

Their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens He has pitched a tent for the sun,

which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion,
like a champion rejoicing to run his course.

It rises at one end of the heavens
and makes its circuit to the other;
nothing is hidden from its heat.

Wedding Cake

This is what she wanted...................this was what I made.

I am glad to be done... it was a challenge and I am thankful it turned out.

We are waiting to hear from Africa. We are waiting to hear if they found a child for us.... while we have been waiting we have heard that the orphanage that we are adopting from has had no food for the past 3 days.... it is hard to wait! Can you pray for food for our little one?

I love this!

A Fun Event.... the end of the "Summer"

Last night the summer staff threw the rest of the staff a fancy "end of the summer" dinner party. They rigged the little work truck into a "limo" by putting couches in the back and escorting us to a decorated dinner down by the pool. They made shrimp scampi and "Jake's" Hot Cajan dish. We were all given options of which we would like, but everyone chose to have 1/2 of each. The guys cooked the food and it was AMAZING! They created a mini golf contraption that went over the pool (with an electric wind mill... it was sweet), had coloring crayons on the table, served lemonade with umbrellas in it, and had soft music playing. It was fun to laugh and play with the other staff members.
Thanks to all the summer staff for their work on this fun evening.
(We should have thrown it for them to thank them for all their hard work... they have been a FABULOUS group!) What a gift!

The Sandbox

My parents stopped by our place on their way home from Milwaukee, WI where they spent a month with my brother's family (they just had another baby blessing). My Mom has mentioned to me her desire to be able to do something significant with the time she has been given and I just had to smile because they are! They have literally traveled around the country helping their kids (from San Deigo, CA to Milwaukee. WI). They have helped us with countless projects this summer. Stuff that we needed to do, but haven't had time to finish (or start for that matter). This last visit Dad made a wooden box that partly tucks under our deck for the kids to play in. The dream is to get some sand for it, but for now we are making do with the few buckets of sand we hauled up from the river. The kids love it and I love it that they love it. So thanks Dad and Mom for all you have done for us.... you have blessed us greatly!
