Remembering Grandma

This morning Micah's grandma went home to be with Jesus. We are celebrating her life and remembering all the love she lavished on each of us... We are so thankful that she is at peace, but we can't wait to see her again!

Uncle Eli

"Uncle Eli" has been adopted into our family... he regularly kisses Eden on the head and says "I'm your favorite nonbiological uncle". He was a student the year Ethan was born and he desperately wanted to be in the hospital when Eden was born. So when we went in to have Eden we called him... and it was hilarious... the moment the doctor told me to start pushing - there was a knock at the door and the nurse went to the door and told Eli to wait in the waiting room. Every Tuesday we have dinner together and discuss a chapter of a book we are going through (right now we are going through Francis Chan's book "Forgotten God"). For our home study for adoption we needed a few references - and since he knows us better than any one else we asked him to write one for us.... we should have known better. Here are a few comments from the letter we found in our mailbox.

"I am writing to recommend Micah and Christa to adopt a child since they asked me to.... They are fun loving party people most of the time. Micah and Christa have an interesting relationship but it's pretty chill.... they haven't split up since I've known them. I think that a kid would probably force them to stop arguing about everything. Probably even help them bond. They are mature and stable people LOL!!!! I go over to their house for dinner on Tuesdays and maturity and stability, not necessarily the first two adjectives I would use to describe them.... I know that they look forward to becoming parents, but I would give them a couple more years to get their finances figured out first. But if you still want to give them a kid to take care of, then that's your deal... I'm probably a better candidate even though I don't have a wife, stable housing, or any money, but whatev, your choice."

I read the letter and I about dying laughing... I called Micah and asked him if he had read it - he said he had, but didn't seem to concerned about it... so I asked if I could read it to him. We were both laughing (I didn't include all the letter)... so I decided we needed to get him back! I told Micah that when he went into work to not say anything about the letter until Eli asked him. Then to thank him for it and tell him we were able to get it in the mail that morning. To make a long story short - I got a FRANTIC call from Eli asking me if I had read the letter and if I had SERIOUSLY mailed it. I have never heard so much panic in one person's voice before. I am still laughing about it. I couldn't lead him on too much because you could tell he desperate... so I just laughed and he sighed DEEPLY and told me that our "payback"was solid. He told me that Micah had the real letter! We love Eli... and we love having in our family... even though he is a punk!

34 Weeks Old

We are in the 34rd weeks of Eden's life. This week she decided that she loves her daddy... whenever he is around she just smiles and smiles. It is cute. She is still busy eating everything and trying to walk around... and pulling herself up on everything. She is also filling out... so I am thinking we are in for a growth spurt... real soon!

Keep'in it Real...

This morning around 1:30am the power went out and it stayed off until 7:30am.. the house was frigid cold this morning until we fired up our trusty wood stove! I bundled the kids up in the jammies, lit candles all over, and we all curled up by it's heat. It was fun! Made me think about how dependent we are on power.... too dependent!

Every Sunday night Micah and I listen to a audio sermon and lately we have been listening to Francis Chan from Cornerstone Church in CA (here) and last night was a sermon on the importance of suffering. I realize how much I worship COMFORT! This morning around 2am I couldn't help but whisper to Micah, "Did you pray for suffering?"... he just laughed at me. (AS THOUGH HAVING THE POWER OUT FOR 6 HOURS IS SUFFERING!!!) My thoughts drift towards all our brothers and sisters that are suffering... and I couldn't help but pray that God would help me have a heart of gratitude in the midst of my great "wealth"!!!

Speaking of my great wealth and abundance... I have been working on cleaning out my "guest" room/pile everything that doesn't have a place room. My parents might (hopefully, fingers crossed) be coming for a little visit and I should probably clear off a little room for them to sleep... they told me not to worry about it... but look at this!!!!!!

Where is the bed??? Yeah, I think I should worry about it a little bit. I have so much wonderful baby stuff.. too much! As I sort through the piles I can't help being filled with gratefulness for all that has been given to me... I haven't had to buy a thing for my kids... and with that I feel such a responsibility to use it for God's glory - because He has been so good to us! So... I am praying for a house full of kids one day... at least 6!

Dinner Club: Thai Night

Last time we got together we decided to do a Thai theme the "next time"... tonight was the "next time". It was quite a fun adventure (as Ethan would say). I ended up choosing Curry Tofu in Coconut Milk and Spicy Peanut Eggplant and Shallot Stew served on rice. I have dabbled with curry before, but never with peanuts.... (like anything beyond peanut cookies, cake and toast in the morning). So this was fun and I have to say the peanut soup was my favorite... so delicious.... We had 6 gals and 2 brave guys... and one of the two guys was NOT my husband. He was dramatically choking and gasping from the smell of all the spices... so he and Ethan went down to campus for dinner... oh silly! This meal was a lot of work, but so worth it and I have to say that my favorite part is to have a kitchen full of people all cutting and helping out. We cut and stirred to some French cafe music (thanks, Gena!) It was lovely! (Next time... Mexican... I am pretty sure Micah will join us!)

Inside/Outside

The Snow is Back!

As soon as I posted about warmer weather (earlier this week) - it immediately started to snow and it hasn't stopped since! This morning Ethan had a blast out in fresh snow and when he came in we made some hot chocolate and enjoyed warming up together! Every time Ethan plays out on our new deck I am filled with thankfulness to those who volunteered their time so that Ethan could have a place to play... what a gift! I just love being able to watch him from the comforts of my warm living room!

33 Weeks Old

There is no such thing as life in the slow lane with Eden. She lives each day to the fullest... I have now figured out why there are straps on high chairs, swings, and other such baby seat thing... Ethan never tried crawling out. Eden can't sit still... she is CONSTANTLY crawling out OR climbing up whatever she can get her hands on! She spends her days standing and she has decided that she needs to eat REAL food. I just restocked the freezer with squash cubes, sweet potato cubes, pea cubes, peach cubes and bean cubes... hum... if she can't hold it she won't eat it. Although, she did eat a frozen squash cube I gave her last night. Her new favorites are small tofu cubes and little avocado cubes. While she is eating she regularly reaches up and puts her hand through her hair... she is a disaster! We are slowly moving in the direction of a nap routine, so it has been a good week.

Double Trouble

This past week I have been watching a little friendship bond start to blossom between my kiddos. When Eden wakes up from her nap Ethan always wants to run in and get her out of her tent (yes, she sleeps in a tent). They stay in there for the longest time laughing, giggling and doing who knows what! Eden has to be wherever Ethan is and Ethan is constantly watching out for her... pretty much telling her that she can't eat all the little bits of trash off the floor... who KNEW my house was so dirty (that girl has a gift of finding strange, weird things). I call them the double trouble... double blessing team... I love my little kiddos!

(In this picture they are trying to catch a fly.... you should have heard them laugh.. and if my camera was not broken... YET AGAIN... I would have caught it on video!)

Venturing Out

The weather has consistently been in the upper 30s.... so we are taking advantage of this heat wave! Ethan is into "hiking" (more like meandering down the road... stopping at every puddle... picking up every rock and stick... and making loud outdoor noises). So we are "hiking" a lot! It feels good to get out of the house and into the fresh air. I know this is our little break in the weather before REAL winter hits so I am soaking upevery moment!

The other night Ethan and I went for one of those "hikes" and he was making his LOUD outdoor noises - that sounded more like a dying rabbit and it was turning dusk. I couldn't help but feel a little bit vulnerable because I was sure that every mountain lion in the valley had to be following us looking for that "rabbit in distress"... great just great! Sure gets the heart rate up! (I know... the only real reason for that story is to get the parents' heart rate up too!) But anyway! Hopefully tomorrow we will find more sticks, rocks and puddles to splash in. I sure love the thought of warmer weather in a few months!

Crooked Tree Photography

In the last few weeks things have exploded around our house. Officially we started a photography business.... "Crooked Tree Photography" Well... mainly Micah - I'm merely in training (see how AMAZING his pics of Eden are). He is scheduled to shoot 3 weddings this summer! We officially/unofficially started the business last fall when we started selling his picture prints and cards (here) made with his pics at a local gift shop. We have sold a lot of pictures and cards in Augusta and this thrills us because a percentage the profits that we make go to support orphans in Kenya, Africa... which brings me to another development in our lives... our "nonprofit organization" Certain Truth Ministries that we are forming with a coworker/friend, Eli Denison (go check it out...!). It is in the baby stages of development. We have all our paperwork ready to send to a lawyer to make sure it is all accurate.

Yeah, I go offline for one week and life goes crazy! We are super excited to use our gifts and talents to care for those who are close to Jesus' heart. At this time the main purpose of our nonprofit is to funnel finances to our adopted orphanage. We value your prayers as we serve HIM with our passions and talents!!!

Princess Dress

This week at Play group (which we started last week) in Augusta a friend brought this beautiful dress and asked if Eden wanted to wear it! It was perfect timing because we had the V-day Banquet and this dress fit perfectly. I thought she looked like a beautiful princess... I just had to capture her so we had some fun with the camera. She is 7.5 months old... she is looking so grown up!

Valentine's Day Banquet

Tonight was the Valentine's Day banquet at school. The family got dressed up and had a great time with the students. The food was amazing! Ethan ate more sugar then he should have, but thankfully he is asleep now... we'll double up on the veggies tomorrow! Eden looked like a princess and for all the noise and excitement the kids did amazing. So Happy Early V-day to you!

32 Weeks Old

This week we have been dealing with "sleeping issues." I have been reading the book "Healthy Sleeping Habits, Happy Child" and it has been SO GOOD. For the past month Eden has been waking up several times a night all at random times, but most consistently Eden loves to wake up at 4:00am to eat breakfast. The good thing is that she falls right back to sleep, but I usually can't! The book talks about how night time wakings can actually be from a lack of sleep. It makes sense so I have been putting her to bed by 7:00pm... and she sleeps until 4am, BUT she is less clingy during the day and actually TAKES naps. Selfishly, I am just praying the 4am feeding fades away soon! Other fun developments.... she is clapping her hands (so precious) and has discovered Cheerios she thinks those are the best thing EVER, and she is trying to stand up on her own...

Update... finally!

Let's see... hum - one week - a new hard drive... not much could happen
in one week... right?

1. Ethan Cade: Our big boy is turning tall and skinny. This morning when I was changing his diaper I told him that he was getting too skinny - to which he replied... "Yep, I need to eat more!" Last week we celebrated his friend's (Paige) birthday. He painted her a picture and we made fun, bright cupcakes. Every day since then when she comes over he get all excited and says, "Happy Birthday, Paige!!!" I think he enjoy eating her cupcakes and of course blowing out the fire! Another highlight was finding some hidden presents from Grampie and Grammie Weller. They sent Ethan some Christmas gifts and I did such a good job of hiding them from Ethan that it took me a month AFTER Christmas to find them... hum! Ethan has been diligently learning his alphabet. We still get the letters confused, but we have fun trying to learn them. This past Sunday Ethan had his first head wound that almost... could've needed stitches! He was running in Church and fell - hitting his head... oh the joys (I know I have a lot more wounds in my future... better renew my WAFA certification!)

2. Eden Eve: Eden turned 31 weeks old! She is now sitting up in the bathtub by herself. She loves sucking on her toes and she is famous for having stuff in her mouth! The other day she wouldn't eat so I looked in her mouth... she had two wads of paper, a long piece of clear tape, and a big wood chip... HELLO! Where does she find this stuff??? Hello human vacuum cleaner. (Can you please pray she doesn't choke...?????? I really don't want to have to be the one to clear her airway!!) Also she is pulling herself up to a standing position anywhere and anyway she can! Funny girl... you are too young to begin walking!!!

3. Dedication: This Sunday we publicly dedicated Eden to the Lord. I think that is a pretty funny concept because I truly believe that she belongs to the Lord in the first place, but it is a great reminder! Micah did an amazing job - he explained that we named her Eden because it means "delight" and from the first moment we knew about her we were filled with delight and she has been a delight to us ever since! He also read 1 Peter 3:3-6 and talked about how our prayer is that she would be beautiful from the inside out. She would be known for her humility and grace and that she would be a delight to those she comes in contact with.

4. Pie making: I had a little get-to-gether with my Bible study and taught them how to make pies. It was a fun time of laughing and baking together. Eden thought the lemon juice was pretty great!

5. D is for Doughnut!: Like I mentioned before we have been working through the alphabet! This past Fun Friday we made doughnuts... so easy, so fun ... so delicious! I just used a tube of refrigerator biscuits and for the hole we used a star cookie cutter... SO CUTE! Ethan especially loved eating them!

6. One more "thing": Well... I guess not that much happened... oh wait... we started the adoption process!!!! We sent in our application - got accepted - and are starting the home study. Please pray for us as we start this process - it has been a desire of our hearts for a long time. I got an email today about our "low income" - knew that was coming - so I just want to ask you to pray for wisdom for us as we ponder raising more support or trying to figure out what to do with that?!

Whew! It has been a long week! Glad to be back!

Updates Coming Soon... hopefully!

Sounds like my new hard drive has been installed and my computer maybe, possibly, might be, could/should be... coming home tonight!

Lots has been going around this place... I have hundreds of pictures on my camera to download!
