This afternoon I had my Bible study up for a little "get-to-gether" time. I have been dying to make my annual fall cookies and so this morning I whipped up some leaf cookies. I just LOVE this time of year and it was a joy to sit around the table with hot drinks and fall cookies and chat. I love hearing the stories, passions and hearts of these girls. They truly are a treasure and I am ENJOYING each one! After our tea, I taught a few interested ones how to make raspberry jam. I feel blessed to be able to invest in these 8 lives.... it is a privilege!

Tonight we had 20 students over for pizza. I made two batches of bread sticks and 6 pizzas (chicken alfredo; pepperoni/ jalapeno/ pinapple; supreme; taco; and two all meat pizzas). They were delicious!!!! The students that came over were a part of Micah and Eli's backpack trips. It was a fun evening full of laugher and stories... oh and wrestling.
I find the secret of a great pizza is found in the dough... so here is my "secret/special" recipe that I have perfected over the years.... hope you make some pizza and LOVE IT!
1 2/3 cup water
2 teaspoons yeast
2 teaspoons salt
Almost a Tablespoon of Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon of garlic salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
4 cups flour

I really can't stand Halloween. I mean if it was about dressing up and getting candy I would be ALL about it... but spiders, skeletons, death, rats, eyeballs, slim, witches, sick-scary disgusting stuff... hum not a FAN at ALL! I really think it ruins the fall (don't shoot me... it is just my personal thoughts).
Every week for Bible study we have a guy and girl come up and make a snack for our fellowship time. This past week Hayley and Shawn made these cute pumpkins. I thought they were cute. I am going to pretend they are happy pumpkins and not Halloween pumpkins... YES, there is a difference!

Last night was guys and girl night here at MWSB. I stayed home with Eden because she was so fussy from having her shots, but Ethan is now grown up enough to go to the wild, crazy guy night with Micah! Maybe I should have been worried.... arm wrestling, bull riding, vinegar shots (don't ask me why), target practice, and pig wrestling (don't worry the pig wasn't hurt... it was so greased up they couldn't even catch it).... boys will be boys. From all the noise and gun shots.... I'm sure it was a great time!

Ethan was my comic relief today. He woke up from his nap talking a mile a minute and didn't stop for a whole hour. He told me all sorts of stories, mixed up some eggs with salt on them for me to eat (pretend of course), and helped me fold laundry (proudly telling me what things were his and which ones were Edens). When he finally stopped his nonstop chatter he just became hilarious. We got some free stickers in the mail from Highlights and so we played with them yesterday. The stickers have moved from the coloring sheet to the balloon and finally ended up on his tummy. I laughed out loud when he walked over to me and he was wearing four smiley face stickers in a row on his stomach. Later we went out to the garden to pick some beet greens and spinach (which both surprisingly survived the frost a couple nights ago)... he wanted to pick a carrot - so we got one. When we got back to the house I didn't think much about it. Then I heard my bedroom door slam and it got real quiet (BIG RED FLAG!). I opened the door to my bedroom to find him laying in our bed chewing on his carrot. Of course... we always eat our carrots in bed!!!! Thanks for making me laugh, Buddy... I needed that!

I think motherhood is a long unknown journey! To me everyday is a new day filled with lots of wondering, questioning, and just trusting God for wisdom, strength, patience, and love to handle each situation with my children. Lately I have been challenged with feeding Eden. She seems like she is full of gas ALL the time - for the most part it doesn't bother her until the evening times and then she cried and won't eat and it is a long battle til she finally gives up and eats more out of exhaustion (why does it have to be evening time... when I am so tired from the day?????). I find that if I wake her up from a nap or catch her just as she wakes up she feeds wonderfully, but if she has been a wake for even 10 minutes - feedings are IMPOSSIBLE and FRUSTRATING!!! I have tried eliminating things out of my diet and it doesn't seem to help. I remember with Ethan that he went through a stage like this at this age too, but it doesn't seem to help things in my mind! I guess I really want to ask all my mother friends... did you go through this? And what did you do? I know Ethan eventually grew out of it, but is there any tips or suggestions to help her or of what I may be doing wrong?
I find it very difficult to try to do this mothering thing when I don't have any young mother friends to hang out with and ask these sorts of question to... so I am so thankful for this avenue... I am thankful for each of you who are in my life... via internet!

When Micah first brought up the idea of going away for the weekend I was filled with "dread". I loving being home... especially with kids, but finally we agreed it would be "fun" or at least an "adventure" we could laugh about later... much later!
So this weekend we took the family on a little trip out of the mountains and to the city. Always cracks me up that we go to the city to get-away! Most people go to the mountain.... anyway! It was an interesting weekend and we learned that maybe we should wait a VERY LONG before doing that again. It was a very exhausting trip, sprinkled with moments of fun.
Needless to say we are home trying to recuperate so we can face the busy week ahead! At the moment we can't remember the fun that was sprinkled in the weekend - so we will just let the smiles on our faces in our pictures share the fun stories! And by the way.... we are laughing... and laughing hard!

Some thoughts about the 11th Week:
1. Ethan has been full of energy.... most of it negative energy which we have been working on! He wanted green oatmeal for breakfast and so he got green oatmeal.... wasn't too sure about it and in the end decided that green oatmeal wasn't for him!
2. Our friend Big Eli had a birthday and Ethan's friend Paige has been sick so we made a birthday card and a get well card.
3. Eden has been having a tougher week and so I am trying to figure out what in my diet is causing her discomfort... I have cut out chocolate, cinnamon (any spices for that matter), citrus fruit, caffeine (even decaf coffee), spicy food, fried food, peanut butter, and now dairy.... hum... wonder what is left to eat! Been hoping it is just a little phase and we can go back to enjoying all sorts of food!
4. And mainly trying to survive another busy week full of chaos, joys, work, Micah teaching Church History, Bible study, one-on-ones and beautiful growing kids!

I have always wanted to take photography lessons. Micah and I have talked about it for a long time and FINALLY we sat down and he taught me a few things. We are going to try to make this a more regular thing... he even mentioned giving me assignments... I honestly can't wait! (Here is a picture I took... trying out what he taught me.)

This past week has been full of canning. My mom helped me can 75lbs of peaches and I have been trying to get 50lbs of pears canned. It has been slow work. I have a little one who like to take a bite out of each piece of fruit and so trying to keep him occupied has been challenging. But I know all the work will be worth it when I see my husband enjoying the "fruits" of my labor...he just loves it!
And I just love him!!!

This past week my mom came to visit while Micah was leading a backpacking trip in the wilderness. It was wonderful having her here for a visit. We talked a lot and did a lot of projects, like canning 75lbs of peaches, froze all the spinach out of my garden, made chokecherry jelly, defrosted my freezer, cleaned, did laundry, etc. The kids loved having her here and I had a little 2 year old ask about her all morning (since she left yesterday). We really miss family out here in the mountains (especially all the free babysitting we hear our brother's families get!!!!) We all hope she can come visit again... real soon!
Thanks Mom, for all your help!! We love you.

Eden is 10 weeks old today. I had to smile at Ethan this morning. He was trying to play with Eden. You can kinda see in the picture, but he had brought her a bunch of toys and piled them around her. There was his favorite car (Lightening McQueen), his dump truck, lizard, her rattle shoe, and the piano which he was teaching her to play. When I found him he was taking her little fingers and squishing them onto the piano keys. She didn't like it very much, but I thought it was super cute. He was telling her that she needed to press the keys for music. Ethan can be super sweet to her one moment and then mean the next.... before this she had gotten his juice cup slammed into her tummy. I really hope the sweetness dominates his actions towards her as they grow... and I pray they grow up to be real good friends.... I really do!!

Hum... I blog for many reasons - 1) so the grandparents can be apart of their grandkid's lives from so far away - 2) so I can capture moments and memories that I want to remember - 3) so that I can write. I love to write. I think about what I want to write all day long and I think I love to blog because I can edit my life. I can post pretty pictures of stuff we are doing with all the "mess" cropped out. It is nice to be able to look at a clean picture and sigh! in remembrance of what a clean house looked like (before the kids woke up) and for a moment it is fun to pretend you are whatever you want to be. Today I made some homemade bread grilled cheese sandwiches and a pot of lentil soup for lunch. As fall is creeping into the canyon I enjoy it's presence with soup. Can't get enough of it! Lunch today was one of those "croppable" moments for me. While all around me was an explosion of toys, play dough bits, dirty dished, a basket of laundry, etc (you know what I am talking about). It was a good kind of mess... Ethan had a friend up and they played hard. Every living spot in the house was covered by scattered toys and pretzel crumbs.... but they had fun and so even though I love "cropping" mess out...I am not quite sure I want to "crop" their fun play (mess) out of my memory.

Here are some new pictures of the princess. I love the first picture... I can imagine her saying, "look at my muscles!"
The second picture is her taking a nap at the
Augusta football game. It was soooo hot on Saturday that I stripped her down to her diaper to keep her cool. She is quite cute in just a diaper!

Thank you for another year with Ethan Cade. Thank you for the boy You are forming him into. We feel blessed beyond belief for the privilege of being entrusted with this life... may we be found faithful. We pray that you would place in Ethan a heart that desires to know You, walk with You, and to love You with all that he is and everything he does. Please give us wisdom of how to raise him, grace to know how to correct him, and love to lavish on him. We are so blessed by his little life and so grateful for all that You have taught us through him. We hold him up to You with an open hand and recognize that he is Yours!

It really is hard to believe that it is already time to celebrate Ethan's 2nd birthday. It feels like we were just celebrating 1 year... and now he is 2! He is such a blessing and we marvel at how he is growing and developing into a little boy. He brings so much life and joy to this house - we honestly can't imagine life without him! We celebrated with the MWSB staff last night with cake and a ton of presents (they all brought him trucks, trains, etc). He is one spoiled little boy. The cake was a road under construction and he was thrilled when he saw it. It was a challenge to keep his fingers out of it! This morning we had a few of his friends up to play. It was a fun morning, but we all are beyond exhausted and so we all laid down early for an afternoon nap!
Happy Birthday, Ethan!

This is what we all felt like doing today! It was a rainy - cloudy day... one of those days that you just want to curl up with a cup of tea and a blanket. I love looking at my sleeping babies. They are pictures of rest and peace... I now understand the expression... "sleeping like a baby".
