Snowed In... Literally!

The last three days Ethan and I have been snowed in.  Surrounding our house are snow drifts that are 3-4-6 ft high.  The road to our house is totally unaccessible (except Micah and a few guys walked, plowed and snow-catted it here just about 30 minutes ago... but no vehicle could make it here)!  In fact as I type our MWSB student body is stranded in Augusta because there is absolutely no way for them to get to school (and graduation is on Saturday... how funny is that!!!!).  Two snow plows got stuck in a 6 ft drift 8 miles from here and had to turn back.  Tomorrow they are sending big machines to dig it out... is this for reals?  Is it REALLY almost MAY!  I find this really hilarious...

The past few days have been interestingly quiet.  The reality that I am snowed in with out a phone and internet was overwhelming at times.  (The phone went out because of the power outages - I can receive calls, but I can't call out... something with our internal phone system and when the power goes out the internet in the offices shuts off).  So this afternoon I hiked down to the chapel pushing 3-4 ft drifts so that I could get to the internet router and turn the internet back on because I was going crazy (it only took me about 45 minutes to get down to the chapel - normally a 3-5 minute walk)!  I truly felt like a mountain woman!

So if it needs to be said at all... I still have spring fever!!!!

Little Bits of Randomness in my Days

On Saturday night Ethan and I went to the Chinese Auction in Augusta.  It is a fundraiser for the local swimming pool.  It is a blast and I look forward to it every year.  I am not sure why it is called what it is called??? But how it works is that you get a number and then they start the auction.  They hold up an object and then you hold your number up in the air.  The auctioneer calls out numbers until the whistle blows.  If your number is called you throw a quarter in the bucket... if your number is the last one called before the whistle you get the item.  It is fun!  I won a $10 gift certificate to bowling alley in Choteau.  It will make a fun date!  I only spent about $1.50... (my number didn't get called that much!)  They had a fun section for the kids and Ethan was obsessed with this race car ramp that had 5 lanes and a bucket of cars.  He spent 2 hours putting cars down the ramp... so when we got home we had to improvise (see the posted picture)... I think I have figure out how to make a race car track like the one he was playing with in Augusta... so just wait and see - I will post pictures when I am done!

Yes, snow and more snow and it is the end of April!  I can't handle much more of this.  It is still snowing and they are predicting power outages and more snow (on top of our already 2-3 ft accumulated).  Micah and everyone else in the canyon is gone... so I am snowed in and lonely!  I got stuck in the ditch last night and I seriously could not find a soul in the canyon to help me.  Finally Matt Bean a Senior in high school was found at track practice in Augusta and offered to come bail me out.  I don't like the snowed in feeling.  I pray for God's protection and safety!  We all know what happened last time I was ALONE in the canyon and pregnant!!!!

My entertainment, my joy, my smile.... yes, Ethan Cade is that and MUCH more!  Here he is bench pressing the recliner.  It was funny stuff.  I am glad we can play together even if we are surrounded by icy wonderland!

Last... I just finished these color collages for Ethan.  We have been working on colors and I began working on these weeks ago.  Today I laminated them and we spent a long time looking at the pictures and "learning" our colors.  He is one smart kid... point to anything that is red and he will tell you it is red... just don't switch colors on him... just yet!

Spring Fever

I have a bad case of spring fever!  I am itching to get out in my yard and dig in the soil.  I am watching for every sign of spring and just longing for it to be a little bit warmer outside so that it won't be so cold when Ethan and I play outside!  Spring flirted with us for several days by blowing in a couple of 70 degree weather days and then on Thursday it snowed another 10 inches.  I was not happy.  But I am still pretending it is spring.  I have 100s of seeds planted and growing and a friend from Augusta just gave me over 100 tulip bulbs.  I cut all the flowers off and am hoping to get them in the ground as soon as I can SEE it!  Spring please come soon!

Last Bible Study of the Year

Last night was our Bible study dinner... the last "Bible Study" of the year!  Micah and I planned a picnic down the road from campus because the weather has been beautiful.... in the 70s (today it is snowing...AHHH).
It is hard to believe that we have spent a whole school year with these st
udents and now they are graduating!  It was a bittersweet time last night.  The food was great.... what can't you like about a good old BBQ?

Even though last night was filled with lots of food and laughter more than anything Micah and I pray that these students will continue to walk with God.  We pray that as they go back into their old communities they will remain faithful in their walk with God, impact other and inspire others to love Jesus.

Babysitting

Today Ethan had a friend (Eli Anderson) come for a visit.  It was 72 degrees outside and so we spent a majority of our day enjoying the beautiful weather (it is suppose to snow on Thurs.. yuck!).  We played with the dogs, dug in snow banks, threw rocks in the river, went down the slide and took turns on the swing, rode the 4-wheeler, played in the gym..... and completely got tuckered out!  It was fun!  Ethan just loves being with friends!

Weekend Excitement!

This past weekend we enjoyed a fun evening with the student body... it was guy/girl's nights!  The boys enjoyed the Barbarian feast... Micah actually cut stripes in his beard and even a stripe down the middle of his head... I did not EVEN think of taking pictures of it until after I finished cutting (fixing) it for him!  SHOOT!  I took Ethan with me.. because girl's night always tend to be a little milder than the guys nights and I like to protect his innocence!  Ethan had a blast... I love the first picture... oh yes, Ethan all the girls are looking and smiling at you!  We enjoyed a mystery dinner... eating food with fingers is always a fun/lady like thing! Ethan enjoyed painting a picture frame for a picture of the two of us!  There was a lot of laugher, fun but more than anything I just enjoyed hanging out with the girls and MY SON... too much fun!  (from the sounds of it the boys had a great/manly time... and if I do find a picture of Micah with his weird hairdo... I will post it!)

Ethan is "INTO" lots of stuff....

Ethan has been "into" a lot of things lately!  Magic markers on the carpet and the wall... into play dough pushed into the carpet... into a new game of watching his toys "fall/fly" down the stairs... into drinking his juice and watching it dribble into the carpet... into doing the dishes and using the squirter hose all over the windows... into escaping outdoors because he can open doors now... The list could go on and on.  I wish I had the energy to keep up with all his messes and the strength to be "into" all these educational moments we have been having lately.  Thoughts of how am I going to do this with 2 have run through my mind - I guess I am just thankful to know that generations of people have survived 2+ kids and we will too.... and when the time arrives I pray for the grace to be "into" the moment.

(I don't think I could love or be "into" this kid more than I am... he still is the greatest!)

Baby News

Yesterday we had another ultrasound of the baby.  It is BEAUTIFUL!  We were able to count all it's fingers, see it's heart beating, and watch it grab it's toes!  So precious!  I was bummed that we did not get any clearer pictures because the printer was jammed!  Oh well.. I have one more ultrasound - so maybe then!  I feel like I am growing bigger and bigger every passing day and the scale at the doctor's office made me gasp in horror... I am officially on an exercise plan and diet!!!  What we do for our precious babies! ;o)

Easter Egg Hunt

On Saturday we went to the Augusta Easter egg hunt.  It was a bright and beautiful day!  Ethan really got into looking for eggs (especially after he discovered that some of them had chocolate in them) and since the hunt we have hidden them all around his room.  He just gets a kick out of finding them!  We got to meet some new kids around his age and also hang out with the kids he
plays with in play group.  We were thankful for such a warm day!

After the hunt we went up to Nilan reservoir for a picnic.  Thankfully I had packed Ethan's rubber boots... because the first thing he did was run for the water! Not sure there are too many rocks left on the beach - because he got a kick out of throwing them and watching them splash!  It was a fun family day and it was great to be able to relax and prepare our hearts for Easter.

We are so thankful Jesus came so that we could have life... real life!

Fun Friday!

Today was FUN FRIDAY!  We started out the day with a bang!  Art time!!!  We colored lots of trucks, planes, bugs, etc on a large sheet of butcher paper and then we played with colored noodles... they are fun to sort and "throw".

Then after breakfast we headed to a friend's house to see the baby cows!  We got to pet some horses and then feed some very bold cows!  Ethan wasn't too sure about the big animals.... he kept saying, "UP"... he enjoyed it from the safety of my arms.

Then after nap we found some puddles!  He had a blast and all the while I was thanking God for washing machines!

It was a FULL FUN FRIDAY... hope yours was full of fun, too!!

To Good to Eat!

I just finished fixing my lunch and it looked too good to eat so I took a picture of it!  I am especially proud of my sandwich because it is made on homemade french-bread with a layer of fresh hummus!  YUM!  I was really inspired to bake/cook yesterday!  It all started with a college friend making a status comment on facebook about making hummus.  The more I thought about it - the more I knew I needed to make some... so I did.  Then I had to have something to eat it with so I made french bread.  Total satisfaction!!

Here is the recipe... just in case I have inspired you!

Hummus
2 can garbanzo beans (1 can drained - the other not)
1 tsp cumin
2 tsp olive oil
6 cloves of garlic - pressed
2 T lemon juice
Salt and pepper to taste

blend to desired consistency... I always add a T of tahini because I love the rich flavor... so if you do too... I would highly recommend it!

A Weekend Away

This past weekend we escaped!  Micah has been going nonstop for weeks and this past weekend he taught the finance class and was beat.  I knew I needed to get him away from campus or he would have spent the whole weekend working on his office work and grading!

It was good to get away!  We enjoyed time as a family just wandering around the stores chasing Ethan... going from train sets in bookstores to the train sets in toy stores.  We had fun making our meals in our TINY hotel room and more than anything Ethan enjoyed the hotel's swimming pool... we say Ethan enjoyed it because it was freezing cold and you had to keep moving to stay warm... he did not seem to mind!  In the evenings Micah and I would put Ethan in his pack and play and then we went out to the lobby to read and play games until it was time for us to sleep.  It was fun to just be together and on our way to our escape... I graded all his papers from his class... so it was a good weekend and I think we now have enough energy to finish the rest of the semester!

Priority Changer

By nature I am task-oriented.  I enjoy making lists, planning events, and more than anything getting things done.  Ethan has totally changed my perspective on life!  Today he and I cleaned the ashes out of the fireplace.  It took a very long time and was definitely not the most efficient way of doing it (scoping the ashes with an orange sandbox shovel into a little bucket then transferring it to a bigger bucket).  And while I was holding him so that he could scope the ashes as ashes were flying everywhere I was reminded that people are so much more important than a task.  Watching Ethan learn how to scope and fine-tune motor skills - while being with Momma is so much more important than getting the ashes cleaned out of the fireplace!  By the end - the job was finished... yes, there was a little more vacuuming to do and we were both covered with ash and charcoal.... but I was so proud of him and the job that he did.  Love how God teaches us important things... even in the midst of ashes.

April Fool's Day

I have always enjoyed having fun on the first day of April.  Today Ethan and I took special cups of "juice" to play group!  It is actually jello... (got the idea out of our Family Fun magazine).  What a fun treat.... Ethan slurped it right up - unfortunately almost every other kid at play group is allergic to food coloring... (does it seem like kids have more allergies these days????)  Anyways it was a treat for us (and it was sugar-free)!!
