I have been thinking a lot about what to do when the baby arrives! In fact during one of those night of pregnancy insomnia (happens OFTEN) I thought and thought about how to squeeze two little ones in one little room. How do I make extra storage space? How to make it look cute? You know all those practical questions. Fortunately the little one won't join Ethan in his room for a while thanks to our small pack & play. I think the little one will sleep in the kitchen for the first few months of life. We really want to keep Ethan in his crib for as long as possible (because bed time is so easy right now!) and at this point in time he has not displayed any desire to climb out... thankfully! Anyways... that is just a few of my thoughts lately... sure looking forward to this next stage of life.... time for a nap... I think!!! (for your enjoyment I included some pictures of Ethan's room... I love it!)

Yesterday we woke up to a foot of fresh snow on the ground and it was still falling! I moaned thinking about the long trip to church and the fact that I had to drive a van load of students in the snow... not my idea of a fun time! It continued to snow and as we were getting ready to load up the vans the phone rang and we were given the good news that the roads were too bad for the vans - so don't even try it! I almost cried! Ethan was sleeping and Micah was already at church - doing the powerpoint (they had barely made it in and barely made it back)... so it was so nice to be able to go home! A student joined me and we had a delightful morning of fellowship!
Today the sun was shining - revealing over 3 ft of fresh powder. It is beautiful!!! After bundling Ethan up we headed outside as soon as the temp. rose above freezing. Ethan was not impressed, but after the long struggle to get bundled up I told him he would have to tough it out. So I worked hard to give him a good time. I shoveled snow mazes in the snow, played tractors with him, and tried to get him to enjoy himself.... he would have NOTHING of it... UNTIL he found a patch of mud... then he was filled with delight! I think my little guy is sick of the snow and is ready for spring!

Our couch potato - we are trying to figure out how to break him from his fascination with the movie Cars!

Something I am thankful for is that there is never a lack of activity around our home (even as I type the baby inside my tummy is doing laps and kicking up a storm). Ethan has been keeping us on our toes from morning until night! This week there has been an explosion of new words and the more I watch him the more I realize that he is such a little boy - and no longer a baby. His new favorite word is "NO".... we were playing outside and I just had to laugh... I asked him if he wanted to go inside - he said "NO"; I asked him if he wanted to go watch "Cars" (his favorite movie), he said "NO"; I asked him if he wanted ice cream, he said "NO"; I asked him if he wanted us to pay for his college education, again he said "NO"... Lastly I asked him if he wanted to skip in afternoon nap.... thankfully he said "NO".... I am so glad we got so many things cleared up in just one conversation (Mother/son communication.. we got that down!!!!) The weather has been beautiful one day and then cold the next - in fact we woke up to a fresh blanket of snow this morning... and an awful cold that Ethan has developed! But while it was warm we took every opportunity we could to be outside. The mud is crazy here so I have had load after load of muddy clothes, but I ordered rubber boots so I am so excited to not have to scrub little boy shoes anymore! So that is what is new with us.... new words, mud, and lots of fun!

Thursday nights are our nights! It is really the only night we have as a family during the week... thanks to the college life we live. This semester Micah has a full schedule - he leaves the house by 8 and we try to get to sleep before 11. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights he is working with students until "usually" after 10ish. Tonight we grilled some steaks and just had a sit down, slow dinner (well semi-slow thanks to our food throwing - energetic - picky eater - extremely vocal/dramatic toddler). I made a pie to celebrate and then Ethan watched his "car movie" while we played several "peaceful" games of cribbage...... it is good to be a family.

This past week my dad and Grandpa came all the way to Montana to visit us for a few days! It was so fun to have them here - even though Ethan and I were sick with a cough and congestion (we are FINALLY starting to feel better).
My dad made huge brownie points with Ethan by bringing him an airplane. Ethan is obsessed with planes. We have to find videos and picture of planes on the internet several times a day and he is always the first one to find a plane in the sky. The plane has become the favorite toy around the house ... so thanks, dad!
The visit was just what we needed... a little encouragement during this down season. We were able to eat some yummy food, play a lot of cribbage, and tell stories. I was so glad to have something to keep my mind off how bad I was feeling (another round of morning sickness... yeah!!!!).
Thanks Dad and Gramps for coming up and bringing joy into our house. We really loved having you visit! You are welcome back anytime.... and since you are probably wondering - the envelope is still safe and sound.... and UNOPENED!

Well, we had our ultrasound yesterday and it was amazing to see our little baby moving around! We decided not to find out the sex, although we asked the tech to write it down on a note and put it in an envelope so that just in case we change our mind... it is tempting! The tech was not able to get a good picture of the babies face because he/she was laying facing straight up, but not to worry - I have MANY more ultrasounds this time around. Why? Well... I guess once you have a baby early the first time around you are put into this "high risk" category where the doctors get to freak out about every little thing. I am taking a baby aspirin a day and a handful of vitamins.... and just recently the doctor wanted to put me on two shots of heparin a day (which after praying about it a lot we decided not to). They are really worried I will miscarry this baby due to throwing clots in the placenta. So I get monthly ultrasounds and they are thinking to try to watch the baby carefully and possibly take it early (about the same time Ethan was born - 4 weeks early) so that I won't have the same kind of bleeding I had last time. I hope this is making sense, because it just makes me smile. I know this baby is a miracle... a part of God's amazing plan and He will bring about what He wants in His time.... so I ask... can you join us in praying for this little one? Can you pray for my blood that it won't be clotting in the placenta? And more than anything can you just pray the baby will be healthy and safe.... how thankful we are we don't live by fear, but by faith.

We were stoked to get to travel to San Diego for our Spring Break. We found an amazing deal on tickets and so we went. Our main motivation was visiting Lyndsay. She is our dear friend who has been battling Leukemia for the past year.
The first day we were there, Lyndsay had her doctors appointments so we went to the San Diego Zoo... it was WONDERFUL. Ethan had a blast looking at all the animals and we enjoyed watching his excitement.
The second day we went to the beach. The weather was beautiful and Ethan loved the water, sand and chasing the birds. He was so worn out by the end of the day.
On our last day we went to a very lame aquarium.... most of the hands on stuff Ethan would have been interested in was blocked off due to a class that was visiting. I was frustrated, but we ended up leaving a going back to the beach and Ethan ran around and had a good time... so it was all good.
Over all the vacation was restful, Ethan did fantastic, and we came home with 275 pictures and lots of good memories. More than anything it was a blessing to see Lyndsay and be able to spend some time with her! We sure miss her!

Last Sunday we had some good family time. The weather was so nice after church we grabbed some lunch items at that general store and headed out to a near by lake for lunch. Ethan ran around the beach throwing rocks and we sun bathed... it was nearly 70 degrees (not so this week... it was barely above freezing!) Then in the evening we had our first family game time. It was great... we introduced Ethan to Zilch... I think he enjoyed it - and he was killing us until he got bored!
Ethan is growing like a weed! This week he has become totally fascinated with cars, bulldozers, tractors, planes... you get the idea. He walks around making noises - and so it has been a very "motorized" week for us.
This Friday, Micah and I headed to Missoula for our Valentine's Day date... a little bit late, but right on time. Ethan stayed home and we missed him, but it was nice to just be able to hang out as a couple. The thing I enjoyed the most was eating a warm meal - all while sitting! I am usually up and down - up and down and by the time I eat - my food is always cold. We enjoyed shopping, talking, and of course eating fun/good food. It was great! (the picture was taken on the way to Missoula.. if you notice there are hundreds of elk scattered on the mountain... we thought it was pretty cool!)
This week we are headed on our first family vacation! We are flying to San Diego and looking forward to a day at the San Diego Zoo, the beach and hanging out with our dear friend Lyndsay (she is our friend who has been battling leukemia). So it may be a while til you hear from us again.... so we send our love!
